What Hairdressers know and you don’t - TRADE TRICKS

Sometimes your hair just gets away from you. You put in a few highlights, next thing you know you are sprouting colours previously unseen on humans. You declare war on your curls – until you realize you’re spending 70 hours a year working out with the blowdryer...

Misbehavin’ fringes

To tame a fringe that won’t lie flat, add a dab of mousse or spray on a heat styling product. Then hold the fringe with a brush or your fingertips and aim your dryer in the direction you want the fringe to go. If the fringe is sticking up, aim at the roots, pointing downward. We Reccomend Wahl Blowdryers, and GHD Straightening irons.

Limp Hair

Put large Velcro rollers arond your hairline when hair is 95 percent dry. Blowdry for a few minutes, remove rollers, and lightly comb for volume without much curl. Another lift: Try using conditioner first, rinsing and then shampooing. We recommend BainDeTerre Volume Boost, Scencience Volumising shampoo and conditioner adds volume to fine hair.

Hat Head

Prevent it by keeping hair as clean as possible, since residue makes it more likely to go limp. For an instant lift, bend over and mist your mane’s bottom layers with hairspray, then flip your hair as you straighten up. We recommend Scencience design hairspray or GHD Ultimate hairspray

Static

Ground flyaways by spraying on a soft-hold hairspray, then smoothing the top layer of hair with a flat brush. Or rub a bit of hand cream into the palms of your hands and run then through your hair. We recommend Scencience Shine serum or Scencience Brilliant defense or GHD’s Polishing serum

Dirty Hair ( and you’re late)

Blot your scalp with an oil-absorbing sheet ( for the face), then sprinkle baby powder or dry shampoo onto your brush and comb through roots. Or spritz hairspray on roots and rub hair with a towel. We recommend Scencience oil control shampoo & conditioner, Scencience Silk Finish Hairspray or GHD Sea Spray.

Frizzy Hair

What makes cuticles lie flat? Rubbing on a smooting cream, and then waiting until hair is nearly dry before blowdrying. Afterward apply a glossing serum. Flat irons on dry hair also do the trick. We recommend Scencience Revive, Scencience smoothing gelee, Scencience Shine serum or GHD straightening irons, GHD heat Protector, GHD Obedience cream, GHD Polishing serum.

Stale Smell

Alcohol can dry and damage locks, so don’t spray your perfumes directly onto hair as a quickie morning-after cover-up. Instead, spray perfume on your hands, clapping a few times to dessipate the alcohol, then run your hands through the ends of your hair.

Botched Colour

Too blonde? For a quick fix comb a gel into dry hair. When hair looks wet, the colour looks darker. You can tone down brassiness with a violet-tint shampoo. And if you’ve gone way too dark wash out some colour with an inexpensive shampoo; cheap brands contain more detergent, which strips more of the new colour away. We recommend ISO Blonde Shampoo to tone down brassiness.

Heat Damage

Slather a deep-conditioning treatment onto damp hair once a week. Every few days, comb in a leave-in conditioner and wear it in a ponytail. Try a touch of pomade of frizzed-out ends. We recommend Scencience True Hue Instant Treatment Capsules or Inner Restore Masque or CPR Treatment for severely damaged hair , Bain De Terre White Lilly leave in moisturizer or Swartzkopf Seal the Ends.

Roots Showing

You may temporarily camouflage with a brown powder eye shadow or something designed for this purpose: a touch-up stick or hair mascara. To draw attention away from the mismatch, go for a tousled style. We recommend Roux - tween time colour sticks or Elgon colour pigment conditioner or camouflage mascara.
